There’s no doubt that 2017 has been a great year for LEGO fans, with two great LEGO movies, Brickheadz and of course the humongous Millennium Falcon Ultimate Collector’s Edition (originally $800 and already being resold for thousands of dollars on Amazon). In all the the excitement, you might have missed some great sets. So we’ve decided to put together our list of the best new LEGO sets of 2017.

10255: Assembly Square

For Modular fans, it doesn’t get much better than this. I don’t think there has ever been a modular with quite so much packed into it. A lot is happening in Assembly Square which includes eight minifigures from a dentist to a baker to a ballerina. And yes, it even has a baby.

A bit pricey, sure, but Modular fans are used to the large sets and with all you get in this one it’s a great value!

10259: Winter Village Station

LEGO has really been killing it with their Winter Village sets, and 2017’s in absolutely spectacular! The set comes with five minifigures and is a must-have for anyone with a Christmas-themed LEGO display this holiday season. The best part is it includes train tracks, bringing all the fun of LEGO trains to your Winter Village.

60143: Auto Transport Heist

You probably missed out on this set, but it’s one of the best police-themed sets for LEGO City in some time. You get a total of four great minifigures, two police and two criminals. What really makes this set a must-have is the car transport truck which will let you play out some thrilling police chase scenes straight out of The Fast and the Furious.

60150: Pizza Van

Who doesn’t love pizza? If your LEGO City citizens don’t have the Pizza Van, get it for them now! The set has a high number of decals, but you end up with a great food truck with awesome detail. The delivery scooter is a nice touch too.

60153: Fun at the Beach

This set is a “People Pack” which is a great excuse to collect several minifigures. Similar to Fun at the Park, this set comes with a wide variety of minifigures and a few accessories and small builds for them to enjoy their time out and about in their LEGO world. You get a whopping 15 minifigures and lots of beachwear for summer-themed fun.

60160: Jungle Mobile Lab

2017 saw the introduction of the Jungle theme for LEGO City. It’s a refreshing change of style for LEGO City that surely appeals to you adventure-inclined LEGO fans out there. The sets bring back nostalgic memories of Johnny Thunder as a team sets out for exploration.

Several of these Jungle sets are great to have, but we landed on the Mobile Lab as the must-have if you can only get one. It comes in at a good price without being one of the larger bank-breaking sets and still provides a lot of unique elements to introduce you to the Jungle theme, including a minifigure-scale Venus Flytrap!

71042: Silent Mary

Say what you will about the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, they make for killer LEGO sets! This is a large and correspondingly expensive set, but it’s one of the most incredible-looking LEGO ships you’ll ever own. The ghost pirate minifigures are also a great addition to any LEGO collection. And yes, there are zombie sharks. Zombie sharks!

75168: Yoda’s Jedi Starfighter

Honestly, Star Wars probably deserves its own Best of article. With all the many new stories coming out of Disney, there are several great LEGO sets for Star Wars fans. If you have pick one favorite for 2017, mine would be Yoda’s Starfighter. If you haven’t gotten a Yoda minifigure yet, this set is a great opportunity to pick him up. And his starfighter is incredibly elegant with its TIE-inspired design and Yoda-green detailing. Plus you get an R2-D2 and it comes with spring-loaded green laser bolts!

31064: Island Adventures

Let’s not forget about LEGO Creator. Many of my favorite sets come from the Creator line, and this is perhaps the greatest use of the 3-in-1 gimmick since you can roleplay crashlanding your airplane on an island, creating an island shelter out of the airplane wreckage until you build your own boat and rescue yourself.

There are so many great options with this set. I particularly love the Island Hut and find I’m incredibly jealous of my little minifigure castaway. Also, did I mention he grows a beard?

60154: Bus Station

Finally, another great set to round out your LEGO City experience. Public transit enthusiasts will really appreciate this set! The bus is by far the best LEGO bus I’ve seen (and I’m including the London Double Decker!) It’s an electric hybrid, so it’s eco-friendly and comes with handicap access and a corresponding minifigure in a wheelchair. I also really love the newstand!
